Growing up, my mom would always say I was an excellent “shca-ta-pee-tone-kyo-la.” I’ve never found the exact English translation of this obscure Sicilian dialect term, but it’s a compliment. It refers to someone that has the natural ability to speak to anyone about anything, making the other party feel excited and energized by the conversation. While the sound of that word always made me laugh, I now look at it in relation to my career as a PR professional and realize my mom was on to something.
Whether it’s pitching media, strategizing with a client or leading a team, it’s not just effective speaking that’s important, it’s the ability to listen carefully, recognize potential problems and offer creative solutions. These are the areas where I typically shine, both in and out of the office.
As a PR professional and resourceful team leader, I have extensive experience in media and client relations, branding, campaign development, event planning, trade-show implementation and account management. Whereas my specialty is in consumer products PR, I work with an array of exciting B2B and B2C organizations. I’m passionate about my clients, which makes my role not only satisfying, but also fun.
Prior to joining 451, I served as Vice President of JB Cumberland PR and later, Didit. In these roles, I developed communications strategies and spearheaded brand image and publicity campaigns for clients in the housewares, juvenile products, tabletop, personal wellness and real estate categories. Some of my notable career successes include securing CEO interviews with MSNBC, The Wall Street Journal and Fast Company and stories in Time Magazine, The New York Times and countless lifestyle media, including Good Housekeeping, InStyle and People.
Born and raised in New York City – minus a two-year stint in Italy as a child – I currently reside across the Hudson River in Hoboken, NJ. When I’m not working, I’m either spending quality time with family and friends; concocting new healthy recipes; analyzing every element of my favorite shows and movies or browsing furniture showrooms in SoHo to satisfy the innate interior designer in me.
